AirTree Partner elected to Australian Investment Council Board

SYDNEY: Helen Norton, Partner of Finance and Operations at AirTree Ventures, has been elected to the Board of the Australian Investment Council – Australia’s peak body for private capital.

Ms Norton brings extensive experience in venture capital both in Australia and the UK to the Board. With $1.3 billion in funds under management and a portfolio of more than 90 companies, AirTree is one of the largest venture capital funds in the Asia Pacific Region. Before joining AirTree in 2015, Ms Norton was based in the London office of US venture capital firm, Accel Partners, for eight years. Accel has a US$12bn venture fund which has invested into companies such as Facebook, Dropbox, Atlassian and Spotify.

Ms Norton’s election to the Australian Investment Council Board was announced at the Council’s recent annual general meeting alongside three re-appointed Directors: Alicia Gregory - Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Private Markets, Future Fund; Chester Moynihan – Founding Partner, Allegro Funds; and Anna Shave - Principal, Tanarra Capital.

Ms Norton joins the Council’s ongoing Board members:

  • Chris Nave – Managing Director, Brandon Capital Partners
  • Matthew Robinson – Managing Director, Pacific Equity Partners
  • John Russell – Chief Executive Officer, Myer Family Investments
  • Michelle Segaert – Partner, Financial Services Law, EY
  • Anna Shave – Principal, Tanarra Capital Australia
  • Jeremy Stevenson – Managing Director, CPE Capital.

Len Chersky − Managing Partner, Private Equity, Brookfield and Andrew Major − Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, HESTA concluded their terms on the Council’s Board. Andrew Major served on the board for eight years including most recently as Chair from 2018-21.

Board members are elected for a two-year term to oversee the strategic direction and governance of the Council. The Council’s 200+ members firms comprise private equity, venture capital and private credit funds, alongside family offices and institutional investors including superannuation and sovereign wealth funds, as well as leading advisers to the private capital sector.
