VOICE OF PRIVATE CAPITAL

The Australian Investment Council continued to have a seat at the table with government on priority regulatory and policy reforms and contributed to more than 60 meetings with government and government agencies on behalf of the industry, over the past year. This included deep engagement on the Venture Capital Tax Concessions review announced in the May Federal Budget, changes to Australia’s Foreign Investment Framework and developments in relation to the disclosure of portfolio holdings in the Your Future Your Super reforms, alongside a range of consultations on Collective Investment Vehicles and Tax Treaties, to University Research Commercialisation, Research & Development and Skilled Migration. Further details are outlined in the Council’s latest Policy Priorities paper.

POLICY BLUEPRINT

Continuing to directly engage with the Government and Opposition is an important focus of the Council’s work on behalf of the private capital industry. A new Policy Blueprint will be released towards the end of 2021 for presentation to both sides of government ahead of the next Federal Election.  The Blueprint will focus on the policy priorities essential for building a resilient future for Australia and for driving innovation and productivity.

Delivering industry-leading market insights and research, through key external reports such as the Preqin & Australian Investment Council Yearbook 2021, industry blogs and political insights support the Council’s policy development and advocacy initiatives with government and regulators. In March, the Council launched the Future Jobs Barometer, a new research report on job vacancies in venture capital-backed companies. This report is updated for jobs in June and December each year and is a valuable resource for tracking the job skills required in the innovation economy.
